When looking specifically at technical skills, my Premiere Pro skills are my strongest. I’ve also had a lot of outside experience with sites like Wix and Canva. In my free time I enjoy scrolling through social media, specifically TikTok, but I like to look at that as educational. I try to identify trends, how and why they come about, and the publics reactions. I find it fascinating how much social media has developed since I first started using it, and I make an effort to understand how the different generations view and enjoy their own versions of social media.

For example, for my production project module I did a lot of research into how social media can be utilised for small business, and how impactful it can be when aiming for a wider audience. I am learning how to market to different generations by, for example, creating a cleaner more sophisticated look when aiming at older generations by using platforms like Facebook, and using bolder more eye-catching designs for the younger generations by using platforms like Instagram and TikTok.

I believe I have great teamworking and problem solving skills, from working in teams for some of my university modules I learned how to truly listen to other people’s thoughts and ideas. I also found that I tend to naturally take on a more leadership role, more often than not my peers would look to me for guidance and advice because when it counted, I’d always have an answer. University has taught me one very valuable thing, I am great under pressure, specifically when there’s time constraints involved. I’ve found I actually thrive under pressure, and I believe this will be a very valuable skill for the workplace.

I also have great communication skills, from helping my parents with their businesses from an early age I learnt how to constructively share ideas and communicate not only thoughts and ideas but more importantly everyone’s wants and needs. Through this I’ve learned how important it is to understand ones role within a team, when to step back and let someone else take the lead or when its my turn to take more responsibility and control. Though my degree I’ve worked with many different types of people in my group projects, all harbouring different sets of skills, which has taught me how to play to each individuals strengths and understand how a good team dynamic is crucial in a projects success.

While I’m talking about what skills I do have I also think its important to identify my weaknesses in order to build on them in the future. I am aware I have a lack of knowledge when it comes to specific marketing strategies and theories that someone may learn by doing a marketing degree. However, what I lack in knowledge I believe I make up for creativity, which is what my university course has ingrained in me the most, I think outside the box and don’t let theories define my work. While I believe this to be a valuable asset of mine, I am always looking to expand my knowledge within this field. The knowledge I can’t gain from working I will pick up through online courses and I will follow the advice of more experienced industry workers in what I need to learn.
